After months of hard work and dedication, Zhiwa Ling Ascent is open for bookings. Keep reading to learn more about this extraordinary concept hotel realised through a joint collaboration between Bhutanese and Austrian project planners.
Authentic training experience for local Bhutanese students
Tourism and hospitality students at The Royal Institute for Tourism and Hospitality receive hands-on training of 120 hours each per year at Zhiwa Ling Ascent. Here they learn valuable skills from making room reservations to check-in and check-out, and culinary arts - including wine service - to spa therapy. All services are taught to the students under the supervision of an experienced and professional hospitality team.
If you have ever visited Zhiwa Ling Ascent’s sister hotel - Zhiwa Ling Heritage in Paro Valley - you will feel the same level of standard, care and attention. Like Zhiwa Ling Heritage, Zhiwa Ling Ascent is committed to developing an all Bhutanese team and strives for excellence in hotel service. Through your support, students strengthen core skills, grow in confidence and deepen their awareness of Bhutanese hospitality.
Hotel design inspired by Bhutanese farmhouses
The starting point for the draft design process was a study and analysis of Bhutanese farmhouses. Specific elements of Bhutanese dzong architecture have been incorporated into the design of Zhiwa Ling Ascent but overall the look is modern and polished. Smoothed natural stone, clay masonry and native timbers clad the exterior. The hotel is modest in size with an emphasis on personal connection, created by the many open spaces throughout the building. Zhiwa Ling Ascent is an ambitious project conceived by Austrian architect Irene Ott-Reinisch and realised through a joint collaboration between Bhutanese and Austrian project planners.
All the features you would expect from a quality boutique hotel
Dine on internationally acclaimed food in the restaurant or unwind with a drink in the bar lounge, and on clear evenings, relax with a cocktail in our open air attic area - an incredible space offering 360 degree views towards Thimphu valley and surrounding forested mountains.
The hotel features 20 rooms in total - 16 double rooms and four twin rooms. All rooms have lovely views, from which at least two and even three points of the compass can be viewed. Two of the rooms on the second storey each have private access to part of the outdoor attic area.
Strong ecological principles embedded into the design
Zhiwa Ling Ascent was developed to be totally energy efficient. From the double-glazed windows built to capture the sun, to the innovative collection of rainwater from the roof, to the generation of hot water by way of solar panels - Zhiwa Ling Ascent is low impact and therefore better for the environment. The construction, functional performance and technical equipment of Zhiwa Ling Ascent is a showcase to the vision of the Tourism Council of Bhutan to what can be achieved in the hospitality industry in Bhutan.
